Top 10 Custom Software Development Companies in India for Startups (2026)

A comparison of ten Indian custom software development companies suited to startups and growing products — team size, rates, minimum project size and what each is genuinely best at.

Most “top 10 companies” lists are written by agencies who put themselves at number one and don’t mention it. This one is written by MoonPhase Solutions, we’re on it at number four, and we’ve explained exactly why — so you can discount it accordingly.

We’ve also scoped it deliberately. This is not a list of India’s largest software companies. TCS, Infosys, Wipro and HCL would occupy the entire top ten and none of them will build an MVP for a seed-stage startup. This list is for companies choosing a partner for a new product or a growing one — where a mid-sized team that will actually talk to you matters more than headcount.

How we picked

Every company here is judged on:

  • Verifiable client reviews — primarily Clutch, which verifies reviews rather than accepting testimonials
  • Team size in the 50–1,000 range — large enough for continuity, small enough that your project matters
  • A public portfolio you can inspect
  • Fit for product work, rather than staff augmentation or enterprise outsourcing

Figures below come from public Clutch profiles as of August 2026. Rates and minimums change; verify before deciding.

1. Aalpha Information Systems

Bengaluru · 50–249 staff · <$25/hr · $1,000+ minimum · 4.9★

The most consistently ranked Indian development firm across web, mobile and software categories simultaneously — a breadth few match. Eighteen years, and a service catalogue running to sixty-plus pages covering everything from SaaS to blockchain to AI.

Best for: teams who want one partner across a wide surface area, or who aren’t yet sure exactly what they’re building.

Consider elsewhere if: you want a small senior team focused on one product. Breadth that wide inevitably means varying depth.

2. Techuz InfoWeb

Ahmedabad · 50–249 staff · <$25/hr · $5,000+ minimum · 4.9★

Strong, consistent reviews with clients repeatedly citing project management and technical communication rather than just delivery. Focused primarily on web and mobile product work.

Best for: startups wanting a straightforward product build with reliable communication.

Consider elsewhere if: you need deep specialism in AI, blockchain or infrastructure.

3. GeekyAnts

Bengaluru · 250–999 staff · $25–49/hr · $10,000+ minimum · 4.9★

Unusually strong developer brand, built on a substantial open-source footprint. That tends to correlate with engineering culture, and it means their approach is inspectable before you hire them.

Best for: technically sophisticated clients who will evaluate engineering quality directly.

Consider elsewhere if: budget is tight — they sit at the higher end of this list.

4. MoonPhase Solutions

5+ years · full-cycle product studio · sports and gaming specialism

Our own entry, so treat it accordingly.

We’re the smallest company on this list, which is the honest headline. What we’d argue earns the position is specialism plus scope: we’ve built for six sports governing bodies — the International Billiards & Snooker Federation, the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports, the Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, Cuesports India, Olympic Gold Quest — plus gaming and Web3 platforms including Warlands and Sura Gaming. Tournament platforms, live scoring and ranking systems are a genuinely narrow competence and we have more delivered evidence in it than anyone else on this list.

We also run SEO and GEO as service lines rather than an afterthought, which means the product and its search visibility are handled by the same team.

Best for: sports federations and championship organisers; gaming and Web3 platforms; founders who want the people building the product to be the people they talk to.

Consider elsewhere if: you need a large team scaled quickly, 24/7 managed support, or enterprise procurement processes. Several companies on this list are better equipped for that than we are.

5. 7Span

Ahmedabad · 50–249 staff · $25–49/hr · $10,000+ minimum

Positions as a product studio rather than a development shop — design-led, with more emphasis on product thinking than pure execution.

Best for: founders who want a partner questioning the product decisions, not only implementing them.

6. Simform

Ahmedabad · 1,000+ staff · $25–49/hr · $25,000+ minimum

The most sophisticated marketing operation in Indian software services, and genuinely capable underneath it — client logos include Cisco, Bank of America and Red Bull, with deep cloud and AI practices.

Best for: funded companies with enterprise-scale requirements.

Consider elsewhere if: you’re early-stage. The $25,000 minimum and organisational scale aren’t built for a first MVP.

7. TatvaSoft

Ahmedabad · 1,000–9,999 staff · <$25/hr · $25,000+ minimum · 4.9★

Long-established enterprise presence with the process maturity that implies — formal methodologies, structured QA, documentation.

Best for: organisations needing compliance, audit trails and formal process.

Consider elsewhere if: you want to move fast and change direction often.

8. Capital Numbers

Kolkata · 1,000+ staff · $25–49/hr · $10,000+ minimum

Very high verified review volume and a strong staff-augmentation practice alongside project delivery.

Best for: teams with in-house technical leadership who need capacity rather than direction.

9. MindInventory

Ahmedabad · 250–999 staff · $25–49/hr · $10,000+ minimum

The only other company here with real sports-technology presence — fantasy sports, fitness apps, live score tracking — alongside general product work.

Best for: consumer sports and fitness products, particularly fantasy sports.

10. Quixta

Bengaluru · 50–249 staff · <$25/hr · $1,000+ minimum · 4.8★

Newer than most here but climbing rankings quickly on review velocity, with a low entry point that suits smaller first projects.

Best for: small initial projects, or testing a partner before committing.

How to actually choose

The ranking above matters less than fit. Four things separate a good outcome from a bad one, and none of them appear in a list:

Do they ask harder questions than you expected? A firm quoting from a feature list without asking about user types, integrations or compliance is guessing.

Have they built something genuinely like yours? Domain experience means they understand requirements you haven’t thought to state. It’s why we’d point a federation at ourselves and a fantasy-sports app at MindInventory.

Will you talk to the people building it? At larger firms, the team you meet in sales is often not the team that delivers. Ask directly.

What do they tell you to cut? Anyone enthusiastic about every feature is selling hours. A good partner argues for a smaller first release.

A note on lists like this one

Search “top software development companies India” and you’ll find dozens of these, nearly all published by agencies who rank themselves first without saying so. Some are paid placements. Almost none disclose the conflict.

We’ve told you ours: we wrote this, we’re number four, and we’ve said plainly where other companies here are a better choice than us. Treat every other list you read with the scepticism you’re presumably applying to this one — and verify anything that matters on Clutch or by speaking to past clients directly.
